Rendering of Product Concept

(ver: 23-Aug-2007)

Create a rendering of your product concept. The goal is to create a drawing that best communicates your concept for someone who is not on the immediate team.

Renderings should be on 8-1/2 by 11 or larger paper. Pick a rendering style which you feel is appropriate to best communicate your concept. Text should be kept to a minimum; this is an exercise in communicating through graphics. Rendering can be done by hand or with a computer-based rendering package. If applicable, include views which show product in use.

Use this rendering in your presentations and reports as the single graphic which best describes your product. Revise the rendering as the design evolves.

If you have more than one concept, make more than one rendering.

You may wish to consult books on product rendering, or consult with an industrial designer to learn about communicating product concepts through rendering.

Archive the original drawings and turn in a 8.5x11 copy (color if the original is in color). That is, you should keep the original.

Make one 8.5x11 color transparency of your rendering, or load up onto the classroom computer in advance of lecture time and be prepared to show it in 60 seconds at 8:00 am, in class, on the due date. (If your rendering is in PowerPoint format, have a one slide presentation, no title slide needed.)
