Team Presentations

(ver: 23-Aug-2007)

Periodically, lectures will be devoted to presentations by each project team. Presentations are on a topic relevant to the current stage of the product development effort. Two or three members of the team should present each time, and the team members assigned to present should be rotated so that each members presents at least once during the year.

Please time your presentations precisely so that we stay on schedule. If you plan to use electronic projection, do a dress rehearsal in the room the day before you are scheduled to present to confirm that everything works.

Open each presentation with a concise slide and description of your product and your project objectives. Your mission statement may be useful here, as are product concept renderings. This introduction should take no more than 45 seconds. Pretend the audience is not familiar with your project. This is your 45 second elevator pitch.

If three teams are presenting on your day, each team gets 25 minutes, including question time. If six teams are presenting on your day, each team gets 12 minutes including questions. You must leave time for questions and comments as this is the most useful part of the presentation for the team.

The presenter should arrive at the classroom at least 15 minutes before the start of class to load the presentation on the class computer and test the technology. At the conclusion of the presentation, delete all files from the computer as they are confidential.

Here's more detail on each presentation:

Project analysis, mid-fall: Provide a summary of your project analysis. including a summary of the client company and your project. Present a clear and specific description of the project and your plan for acheiving project goals.

Prototype demos, end-of-fall: Demonstrate and explain working hardware to the class. See material on presenting prototypes for more.

Condensed mid-project review, end-of-fall: Deliver a condensed version of your mid-project review that will be given to the company the following week. This is a chance to fine-tune your company presentation, and a chance for the other teams to catch up on what you have been doing all semester. Use the question and comment session to fine-tune your message. See writeup on project reviews

Lessons learned, start-of-spring: A 4-slide, 8-minute presentation. One person should present. Slide #1 has your team name, a brief description of the project and mission, and a rendering of your product. Slide #2 has a succinct summary of the feedback you received from the company during and after your fall semester project review, and how you have responded to that feedback. Slide #3 has a plan of action for the next 4 weeks. Slide #4 has some specifics on the May deliverables, including what form the prototype will take.

Prototype demos, mid-spring: Demonstrate and explain working hardware to the class. See material on presenting prototypes for more.
